This massager is REALLY heavy-duty. I got the variable speed version with posts and at the lowest setting, it gives a good, strong massage. I prefer it being this heavy, though. I've wrapped the handles with bubble wrap to create an insulating air barrier to lessen the vibration in my hands.

Running it for prolonged periods can heat the unit up and shorten its life. Core 3401 Jeanie Rub Massager Variable Speed-Core Products works GREAT. I'm trying to put off inevitable lumbar back surgery, so I'm willing to spend money on quality built home therapy to alleviate my agony. 3 right small toes are numb w/ sciatica down R leg.

We use it for certain other problems: around the back of the neck, the spine, the lower back area, the calves. After using it, for about 5-8 minutes, it allows us to crack the other one's back more easily, because it brings blood to the surface. Even if you don't/can't crack your partner's back, this is wonderful. It's a bit heavy and vibrates a lot. Also, when you press down very heavily it slows down somewhat.

The machine does create noise, but not surprisingly so for the amount of power it generates and hasn't detracted from the mellow ambiance of a relaxing massage.
